Marion County is located in Northeast Missouri. It is named for Francis Marion, a Revolutionary War General.
The seat is Palmyra and the largest city is Hannibal. The county is set onto the Mississippi River.
It borders Lewis, Ralls, Monroe and Shelby Counties in Missouri; as well as Adams and Pike Counties in Illinois.
Main highways through the county include I-72, US-24, US-36, US-61 and MO-6.
